MIDI Dilemma

Guess what? It’s 9:00 AM and I’m still awake. I need to fix my sleep schedule. Maybe if I power through and stay awake for another 12 hours, I can at least get back on track to sleeping at night and waking in the day like a human. Until then, I’ve been looking into getting MIDI files to auto-play on my blog, as well as some cool animated cursors. B^)
This is a very productive use of my time.

I drive for rideshare, so I did that last night for a while. I ended up giving a ride to someone with a master’s degree in IT. He had his own business in cybersecurity – the field I want to study. I picked him up from a factory where he worked the night shift – needless to say, he didn’t seem very happy about his career choice. Hopefully this isn’t a bad omen for my own future.

Still, it was cool to talk to someone in the field. He mentioned his business creates cybersecurity software to help people running servers. We talked about Java and SQL and the state of the job market.

Maybe I should find a different niche. Maybe web design! Once I get animated cursors and auto-play MIDI files figured out, I’ll be a shoo-in. Nobody will discount my finesse and expertise. B^)

Hello World

This is my first blog post. I finally got WordPress up and running on a server on AWS. Managed to get an SSL certificate, too. Hopefully this works.

Currently banging my head against the keyboard trying to read through PHP code when I don’t know PHP. All I want is to know how to display the publish date at the bottom of each blog post. I also forgot to set the time zone, so in testing newer posts were appearing before the old ones. I believe I’ve fixed it now.

This is going to be my blog from now on since I don’t use any other form of social media. I just wrapped up my first two classes of IT – Python and Intro to ASU. In two weeks I begin OS Architecture, and this fall I start Java, SQL, and Networking.

I don’t think IT covers PHP – only Javascript. I’ll have to learn PHP on my own time, and this summer is off the list because I’m taking a weird summer class – Human Systems Engineering. If I’m going to learn full stack web dev on my own, I’d rather start from the ground up instead of using WordPress – but I don’t have the patience for that right now. Maybe these posts can be imported into a new website later on.

Until then, I decided to make this blog based off those old Geocities websites with ASCII art and guestbooks. I got the idea for the theme and background from this random domain name I had. It seemed fitting since “soulspecter” sounds like something a 13 year old would think is cool in 2003.

Now it’s noon and I haven’t slept yet. I have two weeks off until the next class starts, so it’s not a big deal for now.
